
In August each year the BSPA holds an Annual General Meeting to assist in planning the future direction of the association as well as electing the BSPA Executive Committee for the next financial year.
BSPA Executive Committee Positions
The three key BSPA Executive Committee positions are the President, Secretary and Treasurer. Each year these positions are officially elected through a vote by BSPA members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). In addition to these key positions, other roles such as Vice President, PhD Student Representative, and Part-Time Student Representative can also be made available if their is sufficient interest. The duties required of the various positions are as follows:
The President
Responsible for ensuring that the BSPA complies with the terms of its Constitution and that the roles of Secretary and Treasurer are properly fulfilled; Organising all events and funding though the UQ Business School and UQ Union; Forwarding student event invitations and BSPA member news by email; Updating the BSPA website; Speaking on behalf of the BSPA at various functions; and generally promoting upcoming BSPA events and the benefits of BSPA membership to all postgraduate UQ Business School students!
The Secretary
Primarily responsible for taking 'minutes' or a written record of all BSPA Executive Committee meetings, particularly the Annual General Meeting. The Secretary also liases with UQ Business School to ensure that our BSPA member register is kept up to date.
The Treasurer
Key duties include keeping the BSPA books in order and organising our audit at the end of the financial year. This involves coordinating the receipt of monies and banking of monies after each BSPA event, as well as maintaining our Cash Receipts Journal and Cash Payments Journal throughout the year.
Vice President/ PhD Student Representative/Part-Time Student Representative
These general support roles assist the BSPA by promoting both upcoming BSPA events and the benefits of BSPA membership to fellow postgraduate UQ Business School students through informal networking as well as in-class announcements. Further assistance may also be required to help set-up various events from time to time.
Any BSPA member can nominate another BSPA member to be officially elected to a position on the executive committee. The names of all nominees are listed and voted upon by the BSPA members present at the AGM. The person with the majority of votes then takes up the position for the next financial year.
