Back to business school for Queensland CEOs

31 August 2005

Australian 'super chairman' James Strong (Woolworths and IAG) and Brisbane City Council CEO Jude Munro were among the speakers at UQ Business School's CEO Summit on Friday 26 August.

Presented in association with The CEO Institute, the Summit also featured Dairy Farmers Chairman Ian Langdon.

UQ Business School Professor Geoff Kiel said the CEO Summit was a unique one-day program expressly designed to meet the particular needs of CEOs and senior executives.

He said, "Presentations included a session by KPMG's Gary Gill on the realities of corporate fraud, Bob Frater from ResMed on innovation, and i.lab CEO Anne-Marie Birkill and NBC Capital's Bruce Scott discussing how great ideas end up as great businesses - or not.

"Michael Smith (Vodafone) and Professor Derek Hart (Mater Medical Research Institute) attracted a big crowd with their session on new technologies and the opportunities - and threats - they present and QIC's Doug McTaggart shared his unrivalled understanding of the investment outlook for Queensland business.

"An interview with childcare entrepreneur Michael Gordon completed an outstanding program."

Chairman of The CEO Institute (Queensland) Ray Weekes said the CEO Summit provided an important opportunity for CEOs to network and learn.

"Most CEOs will admit that leadership can be a very solitary business at times. The CEO Summit allows Queensland business leaders to network with leaders in comparable positions.
