Broadband content at the grassroots

15 November 2005

A team of UQ Business School academics will work with colleagues at QUT, in partnership with Ipswich City Council, to develop technologies for collaborative production, exhibition, and evaluation of broadband content.

UQ Business School's Dr Liz Ferrier said innovative technologies that contributed to the development of content and uptake of broadband constituted a key technological frontier for Australia.

She said, "Broadband and digital media, and the overall new media literacies required for their effective use, are a major contributor to national productivity, competitiveness, and growth."

"This project develops frontier technologies for collaborative production, exhibition, and evaluation of broadband content by grassroots creative producers, promoting an innovation culture as well as exploring innovative uses of broadband and digital media forms."

Three other projects were successful in the intensely competitive ARC funding round.

Professor Steve Gray, Associate Professor Phil Gray, and Dr Jamie Alcock will develop a model to help companies make decisions about debt and equity levels in an uncertain environment.

Professor Janet McColl-Kennedy will work with colleagues in the US to further her work on customer rage.

Dr Damian Hine will work with colleagues at QUT to find out how the technology needs of small firms can be met by existing university knowledge and technologies.
