UQ Business School academic takes the podium in London

Monday 5 February 2007

Professor Mark Dodgson

UQ Business School's Professor Mark Dodgson will speak on innovation at the prestigious Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in London next week.

The RSA - a British institution founded in 1754 "to embolden enterprise, enlarge science, refine arts, improve our manufactures and extend our commerce" - takes a leading role in national and international debate.

A Fellow of the RSA since 2005, Dodgson said he and co-researcher Professor David Gann from London's Imperial College would deliver an address followed by a debate on their research with leading business figures.

Chaired by Richard Lambert, Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry, the event will also feature Glaxo Smith Kline's Vice-President for Technology Development, Computer Sciences Corporation's President of the Office of Innovation, and the Director of Arup Fire.

The lecture will be held in RSA's Great Room with the 200-plus tickets sold out weeks ago.

Dodgson said it was a great honour to be invited to present his work to an audience of politicians and senior business and industry leaders from some of the world's most innovative companies.

He said, "My colleagues and I believe the innovation process is changing, supported by a new infrastructure we call innovation technology.

"These technologies include e-science, and virtual and rapid prototyping and they have the capacity to reduce some of the risks and ameliorate the uncertainties that - until now - have characterised the innovation process."

"With hundreds of billions of dollars spent on innovation annually, anything that can improve the efficiency of this investment is to be welcomed."

Dodgson recently launched a series of innovation summits in Australia and has been credited by Business Review Weekly magazine as having "pushed the debate to the highest levels of government and corporate Australia".
