International comparative studies of trade unionism A study of the industrial and political strategies pursued by Australian, New Zealand, South African and South Korean, trade unions, particularly with respect to relations with Government and employers. Collaboration over the years with colleagues in Australia, New Zealand, UK and South Africa. Current interest in the impact of changes to the Workplace Relations Act in 2005-06
The impact of organisational restructuring and new managerial techniques on front-line staff Ongoing research investigating the impact of organisational change on blue collar and white collar workforces in large private and public sector enterprises. Emphasis on job content, careers, staffing, conditions of employment. Consideration of the industrial relations aspects of organisational change. Current focus is on the Queensland health sector.
Australian trade unionism Research into the history of trade unions in Australia culminating in a book release Australian Trade Unionism: A History From Flood to Ebb Tide for Cambridge University Press (2008).
