18 Feb 2008
UQ Business School Alumni Association Executive Committee member, Darren Cobb was awarded the 2007 UQ Business School Top MBA Award for academic excellence in Finance. The annual UQ Top MBA Awards provides an opportunity for the business and university community to recognise the academic achievements of UQ Business School's top graduating MBA students. Darren Cobb (Highvale) also achieved recognition on the Dean's Honour Roll for 2007. Since graduating with his MBA, Cobb has been offered a new management role at GlobalX Information Services as General Manager of Finance & Administration. This management promotion is fitting for Cobb who has been working in the financial services industry for five years at Wilson HTM as well as the IT, grocery wholesale and mining industries since graduating from UQ with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1988. He said, "Completing my MBA has been a great stepping stone to achieving this appointment to a senior management position at GlobalX." "Winning the award for excellence in finance and being included on the Dean's Honour Roll are also great recognitions for all the hard work and sacrifice over the past four years". Cobb is active in the UQ Business School Alumni Association and has been a member of the Executive Committee since October 2006. The UQBS Alumni Association Executive Committee is comprised of ten UQ alumni from various business disciplines and meets monthly to plan networking and professional development opportunities for alumni of UQ Business School. President of the UQBS Alumni Association, Peter Moutsatsos said, "Darren has devoted much of his personal time to support the growth and proliferation of the UQ Business School alumni across Brisbane and Queensland." "Darren has been a fantastic contributor and supporter of the UQ Business School since he began his undergraduate studies. "It is testament to the strength of our brand and the skills of our people that such talented alumni are seeking to actively participate in the Alumni Association. "Darren's involvement in the Alumni Association will only further strengthen his already successful career and enable him to make strong and lasting professional relationships in the business community." Cobb is directly involved in the sponsorship and marketing of the UQ Business School Alumni Association's events and contributes valuable insights from his experience in the financial services industry. He said, "Being part of the UQBSAA executive is a rewarding experience and allows me to give something back to an institution I have been associated with since 1986." "The executive team is very focussed on growing the association, both in terms of member involvement and range of member activities and this provides a great challenge for all involved." In the last year, the UQ Business School Alumni Association's membership grew 65 percent and with a 50 percent increase in alumni participation at alumni events compared to the previous year.
