Researcher biography

Dr Belinda Wade is a Lecturer in Sustainability and Strategy within the Strategy and Entrepreneurship Discipline of the University of Queensland Business School and a leader of the school's research area the Business Sustainability Initiative: Building Resilience and Adapting to Change. Belinda teaches masters level courses on Corporate Sustainability and Strategies for Sustainability and Innovation. She is also currently leading a team to develop executive education in climate change risk.

Belinda sits on the steering committee of Future Earth Australia and was on the local organising committee of the successful conference Sustainability Research and Innovation 2021 (SRI2021) that took place in Brisbane in 2021 with nearly 1000 registered attendees.

Belinda maintains an active research presence which examines organisational adaptation to sustainability issues with a key focus on decarbonisation and transitions under climate change challenges. Recent research has highlighted decarbonising actions taken within contrasting Australian industry sectors, the dynamic capabilities which can promote greater adaptation to market changes, and, potential for circular principles to be applied develop new business models. Belinda's current major projects include collaborations with Princeton University under the Rapid Switch initiative (focus on decarbonisation) and under the Future Fuels CRC (hydrogen adoption).

Belinda's research is driven by industry problems and she actively publishes results in industry reports and popular media to extend the reach of her research, in addition to academic publications (recent works in Journal of Business Ethics and Nature Climate Change). Belinda has been the lead author on two industry reports Australia's evolving energy future: preparing business through systems modelling, organisational capabilities and stable energy policy and the report Circular Economy and the Water Sector of South East Queensland which publishes the initial results from an industry linked project led by Belinda with a team of researchers from the University of Queensland Business School and the University of Exeter Centre for Circular Economy. Belinda is a regular editorial columnist with articles in Entrepreneur Magazine (online), SmartCompany, and The UK Newspaper, and has been featured in ABC Radio National's Future Tense program and ABC Southern Queensland.

Prior to entering academia Belinda worked extensively within the marketing and trading areas of major energy providers, in a mix of commercial analytical, trading and managerial roles in both traditional energy and environmental product markets.
