One of the great aspects of studying and completing your MBA studies at UQ is the incredible collegiate feel of those former students seeking to remain in contact and assist current students with any advice they can provide.
The UQ MBA Mentor program is a great way to provide highly valued insight and advice to current MBA students about transitioning careers, networking suggestions and other assistance to achieve their career goals.
Our volunteer Mentor places are filled by UQ MBA Alumni with a view to adding most value to current MBA students by sharing their experiences as MBA students and also their transition back into the workforce or continuing their existing careers hopefully at a more senior level.
Why be a mentor?
Mentoring is an empowering experience that impacts both mentors and mentees. Mentors can gain a high level of personal satisfaction from the exchange by making a difference in the career development of current MBA students. You will be inspiring a new generation of leaders who seek your guidance to achieve career success. The act of sharing the knowledge you have learned through your own years of experience will also facilitate your own professional and personal growth.
What is the commitment?
It only takes five minutes to set up your profile on the mentoring platform Chronus. From there, you will be matched with a mentee according to your experience, industries and skills.
The program consists of a minimum of three meetings (face-to-face or online) over 18 weeks.
"The UQ MBA mentoring program is a great way to stay involved with the school as an alumnus. I find that I always learn something from the people I work with and the mentees in this program are no exception." - Sabina Janstrom, MBA alumnus
If you would like to become a UQ MBA Mentor or if you would like any further information about the program, please contact the MBA Careers Team on mbacareers@business.uq.edu.au.
As UQ MBA Alumni, you will be regularly invited to networking and information based events along with current students. Topics for these events are always commercially relevant and access industry leaders and specialist panels and speakers.
We encourage you to keep an eye on our events calendar so you're able to both hear relevant and interesting content and also meet and catch up with your fellow UQ MBA Associates.
Another great way to remain in contact with other MBA Alumni is to join our UQ MBA LinkedIn Group. Membership to this group will be automatically granted to current students and MBA Alumni.
The Business School's interactive learning model uses a combination of cutting-edge research, case studies, presentations, teamwork, simulations, guest speakers and experiential learning to give you a fresh perspective on contemporary management and leadership issues.

"You’re constantly growing as a professional during the MBA experience and come to understand more about what you’re looking for in a career (or not looking for!). Having a team to bounce that around with you, no matter where on the career journey you are is really valuable."
