Researcher biography

Nadeem joined the University of Queensland (UQ) Business School as an Associate Professor of Accounting in 2022. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Otago and Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

Nadeem has interdisciplinary research interests that include, but are not limited to, corporate governance, corporate social and environmental responsibility, corporate misconduct, environmental accounting and reporting, and intellectual capital. He regularly publishes in high-quality journals (ABDC A*, ABS/AJG4 & FT50) such as The British Accounting Review, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and Corporate Governance: An International Review, among others. His research has featured in several media outlets (e.g., The Conversation, newsroom) and has received multiple Best Paper Awards at international conferences such as Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ 2017) and the Corporate Governance SIG of the European Academy of Management (EURAM 2022). He was also recipient of the Best Emerging Researcher award at the University of Otago.

Nadeem has been invited by several international universities for research seminars and he has also delivered keynote speeches at international conferences, including the 3rd CEFGroup Climate Finance Symposium. He was also the sole organiser of the 12th Sustainability Accounting Research Network (SARN) conference, 2022, at the University of Otago. Nadeem regularly reviews papers for top-ranked journals, and also serves the editorial boards of several journals such as Meditari Accountancy Research (Associate Editor) and Journal of Intellectual Capital (Editorial Advisory Board member).

Nadeem believes in research-informed teaching and has taught accounting courses such as Sustainability Accounting and Reporting, Management Accounting, and Advanced Management Accounting, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He loves interacting with students and helping them to achieve their goals. Nadeem has supervised three PhD students to completion, and he is keen to accept new supervisions in his areas of interest. His PhD graduates hold key faculty positions at international universities. He has also examined several PhD theses.

Nadeem enjoys serving in the leadership roles. He has held several academic leadership roles in his academic career, including the Deputy Associate Dean of Postgraduate programmes and Director of the Master of Professional Accounting degree, among others.

Nadeem is member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ).
