CFA Institute Scholarship

As a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) affiliated university, UQ Business School is offering students currently completing their degrees the opportunity to become a CFA with a CFA Institute Scholarship.

The CFA Institute Scholarship is available only for new candidates planning on sitting for the Level 1 CFA exam. This is a highly competitive scholarship as only limited number of scholarships are available each year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the CFA Institue Scholarship you must:

  • Not be currently registered for a CFA Program exam. You are not eligible if you have registered the exam with the CFA before you apply.
  • Satisfy the enrolment requirements detailed here.
  • Have an overall GPA of 6.2 or above.
  • Have successfully completed at least 3 FINM courses, with an average GPA of 6.5 or above.

Exam Cost

If you are selected for the award, the CFA Institute Scholarship waives the one-time program enrolment fee, and discounts the exam registration fee to $350USD, which includes access to the curriculum and all available study tools. This discounted price will be reflected during the checkout process.

It is important to note that once awarded, your scholarship can be redeemed for up to one year from the date you receive your award notification email.

Application Process

  • Apply online. Note: You will need to create a CFA Institute account if you do not have one yet.
  • Complete and submit the following documents as attachments during the online application process:
    • Your curriculum vitae (CV)
    • A cover letter including statement of your career goals
    • Your academic transcript

Application Dates

While there are technically no deadlines to apply for a CFA Program Student Scholarship, scholarship awards will be made twice a year.

For applications submitted before 30 June, a scholarship decision will be made by 31 July.

For applications submitted before 31 December, a scholarship decision will be made by 31 January.

Once awarded, you can redeem the scholarship for up to one year from the date you receive your sward notification email.

Tips for Success

  • Once your CFA Exam Scholarship has been awarded, you may proceed to register for the exam.
  • Study the original source materials – as assigned in each Study Session.
  • Use review materials as a backup and NOT as your ONLY studying material.
  • Complete all the practice problems and write out explanations on ALL learning outcome statements (LOS) in each of the Study Sessions.  Research has shown that if you prepare your own study notes, you will retain about 60% of the materials you studied; only 15-25% material will be retained if you use other people’s notes.
  • Study consistently. We would recommend studying between 15-20 hours per week for each of the 18 study sessions.  In the final month before your exam, study 25-30 hours per week for review of concepts, etc.
  • It is important that you study the right way for Level I.  Do not take short cuts.  This will be your basis for success for futures levels.  In fact, many of the materials on Level II overlap with Level I.
