UQ Business School’s Professor Paula Jarzabkowski has received the Academy of Management’s Joanne Martin Trailblazer Award in recognition of her leadership in organisation and management theory.

Professor Jarzabkowski was honoured alongside fellow international experts Professor Julia Balogun, Professor David Seidl and Professor Richard Whittington for her outstanding work in developing the Strategy-as-Practice field of research.

The experts are responsible for advancing insights, expanding theory and building community to develop a practice-theory based approach to strategy and organisation.

The Practice and Process Studies Research Hub Lead said receiving the award was “very validating”.

“It clarifies that Strategy-as-Practice has become a robust and important field of research, theoretically and practically, over the past 25 years,” Professor Jarzabkowski said.

“In 2000, as we were finishing our PhDs in the nascent theoretical area of Strategy-as-Practice, my colleagues and I didn’t know that our efforts to publish papers, establish research streams, write books, edit journals, and develop conference tracks would lead to such a flourishing and vibrant field of research.

“Winning the Joanne Martin Trailblazer Award is incredibly rewarding for me and my colleagues personally, and for our field.”
