The MBA Careers and Professional Development Team invites the MBA community to discover how embracing an experimental mindset and unconventional strategies can unlock a board’s true value.

Let’s look at the facts.

  • Australian boards have never been more skilled, diverse and professional.
  • Over the past 30 years, hundreds of studies have sought to define and measure the exact nature of what makes boards great.
  • Specialised governance programs – informed by the world’s most experienced directors, executives and academics – educate tens of thousands of directors every year.

Despite this, one question remains. What makes a board truly effective? We think we know, but we don’t. There’s zero evidence to suggest that one set of processes, structures, people and behaviours is better than any other.

You might find this unbelievable, even scary, but it actually presents a unique opportunity to embrace curiosity and unconventional strategies to unlock any board’s true value. In this session, industry experts in governance, Matt Fullbrook and Paul Smith, will demonstrate why and how boards should come together with a more experimental mindset.

After this session, you’ll have:

  1. Explored what good governance really means,
  2. Proposed a scientifically-rooted framing for enhanced board effectiveness, and
  3. Modelled new, practical “interventions" that will bring value to any board.
