Master of Business and Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation changes from 2026

A new program structure for the Master of Business (MBus) and Master of Entrepreneurship (MEI) takes effect from 2026.

What does this mean for you?

Students commencing from Semester 1 2026 will follow the new program structure and course requirements.
Students who enrolled in 2025 may continue under the 2025 program or switch to the 2026 program requirements.
If you're considering switching to the 2026 program:
- Review your completed courses
- Contact the Business School for advice before making any changes.
The changes do not impact your eligibility to graduate. Regularly review your program plan and complete progression checks to ensure you stay on track for graduation.

Master of Business (MBus)

Fields of Study updates

The Fields of Study (FoS) for MBus have been updated to keep your program aligned with industry needs and student interests.

Changes are summarised below. For full details, see the program and course requirements.

2026 Changes to FoS	Details
New: Supply Chain Management	Introduced in response to sustained student interest. This field of study consists of 5 unique courses, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience.
Discontinued: Leadership	Retired to streamline the program structure and align with student interests and future career pathways. Individual courses remain available as electives.
Renamed: Sustainability: Strategy and Leadership (previously Organisational Sustainability)	Reflects evolving industry expectations and strategic integration.
Updated: Information Systems	Refreshed compulsory course requirements: BISM7202 Information Systems for Management replaces BISM7208 Business Information Systems Capstone as a core course. BISM7208 remains available as an elective.
Updated: Innovation & Entrepreneurship	Reflects evolving industry expectations, offering broad exposure to corporate, social, and innovation entrepreneurship, and concludes with a practical capstone experience that connects theory to real-world practice.
Updated: International Business	Includes five compulsory courses, focused on developing a global mindset, strategic capabilities, and sustainability-focused knowledge for leadership in international contexts.

Frequently asked questions

I’m a current student in the Leadership field - will I be affected?

No. Current students can continue in their declared field of study and complete all requirements as per their current program. Leadership-related courses remain available as electives.

Can new students select the Leadership field from 2026?

No. The Leadership field is not available to new students.

How do I update my field of study if I’m a new student?

Review the available fields of study and select up to two that align with your career and study interests. Contact the Admissions team at applicationstatus@uq.edu.au to update your application or offer letter if needed.

Can I switch to a new field of study under the 2026 rules as a current student?

Depending on your completed courses and degree progression, you may be able to transfer fields. Review your study plan carefully and contact the Business School Student Administration Team for advice.

The MEI core course requirements increase from 8 courses in 2025 to 10 courses in 2026, reflecting the program’s enhanced focus on emerging business needs and technologies such as data analytics, AI applications, and sustainable business practices.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to take the new EIBS7304 Entrepreneurial Leadership course?

EIBS7304 is a compulsory component of the 2026 MEI program for new students. Students who commenced in 2025 are not required to take it unless they opt into the new structure.

Are there any changes to electives or field-specific courses?

Course content within MEI has been updated to ensure alignment with contemporary entrepreneurship practices, including corporate, social, and innovation entrepreneurship. Existing electives remain available for current students under the previous program requirements.
