The UQ Business School Alumni Association presents its first event for 2008 - the widely popular Speed Networking for Business - on 3 April at 6pm. Speed Networking for Business, a popular biannual event hosted by the UQ Business School (UQBS) Alumni Association, brings together industry and alumni in a fast-paced professional environment. Think speed dating but in a professional, networking sense.
Speed Networking facilitates participants to make as many business-to-business contacts as quickly as possible. Participants each have a few minutes to talk about their business or services before moving on to the next person. Peter Moutsatsos, President of the UQBS Alumni Association Executive Committee, said "Many people enjoy coming along to this event as it enables them to make many new contacts in a relatively short amount of time." "It eliminates the discomfort of networking after a speech or presentation and obliges attendees to meet many new people throughout the night, in a fun, cosmopolitan and welcoming environment."
The 2007 Speed Networking events hosted by the UQBS Alumni Association twice attracted more than 75 alumni and industry participants. Moutsatsos said, "The first Speed Networking event hosted by the UQBS Alumni Association in March 2007 was the largest ever held in Brisbane". Popular demand suggests this year's Speed Networking event will be the biggest and best yet. Speed Networking is suitable for entrepreneurs, professionals seeking more industry contacts and business owners, as well as UQ alumni. In order to make the most out of the event, be sure to bring plenty of business cards, have your elevator pitch ready and think through what you want to gain from the event, and what you can give to other participant, such as establishing new business contacts or generating new sales opportunities. After all, you never know who you might meet.
