25 Jul 2008
Calvary Christian College and St Peter's Lutheran College took home the winners' trophies at this year's Engaging Business Conference. Hosted by UQ Business School at the UQ Ipswich Campus, over 400 students from 15 schools attended the conference on Thursday July 17 & Friday July 18. The aim of the conference is to give year 11/12 high school students the opportunity to receive a realistic experience of 'attending university' for the day. School groups have the opportunity to select areas of business that most suit their current studies and attend lectures and workshops run by the university's academics. They receive the latest information on relevant business issues and learn where the various business studies can take them. To make the day even more interesting, each school group is in the running to win the 'Engaging *Business' trophy which is awarded to the group that accumulates the highest overall score for the day. Calvary Christian College came all the way from Carbrook to attend Thursday's session and took home the trophy for the best group work on the day. Friday's conference was a very exciting with 3 schools in the running for the trophy leading into the final sessions. At the end of the day, St Peter's Lutheran College from Indooroopilly won out over St Mary's College Ipswich by the smallest margin. Professor Peter Green, Program Director of the UQ Business School at Ipswich was thrilled with the success of the event and thanked all the schools for their continued participation and enthusiasm. "After 6 years the conference is still exciting and relevant to the students and teachers," Professor Green said. "The students have the opportunity to get real-life experience of university life and the added competition is always entered into with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship." At the completion of the conference the trophies awarded are engraved with the school's name and presented to the schools at a time to suit them.
