2 Feb 2009
UQ Business School's Professor Julie Walker will be recognised as the UniJobs 2008 Lecturer of the Year at the University of Queensland on Thursday. UniJobs executive Director, Jarrod Kanizay will host the 11am prize-giving which will see Julie receive a certificate and a trip to Fiji, after beating 2,500 lecturers from universities around Australia. Mr Kanizay said more than 60,000 votes had been cast by students and staff from around the nation. "It is the only teaching excellence award in Australia which encourages students to actively acknowledge their lecturers," he said. "Only 20 nominations separated the top three academics with The University of Newcastle's Dr Wendy Amosa and Australian Catholic University's Murray Bardwell placing a close second and third." Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) Professor Debbie Terry will deliver a brief speech before introducing Mr Kanizay to present the award.
