UQ Business School Leads Sustainability Challenge

On Tuesday 15 September UQ Business School alum Alexander Stathakis will lead an important discussion with Brisbane's business leaders on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). Mr Stathakis, Project Manager of UQ Business School's Sustainable Business Unit will take attendees through the more controversial aspects of the CPRS as well as exploring which lessons learned from the European emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) can be transferred to Australia. "As organisations are major contributors to global GHG emissions, they will have to play a significant role in helping to achieve the reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol, "he said. "Understanding the features of the CPRS, as well as the debate on emissions trading is essential for organisations to manage the risks and opportunities associated with climate change." UQ Business School's Sustainable Business Unit was established in response to the sustainability challenge facing business and provides applied research and consultancy services for organisations that are committed to working towards a sustainable future. "Changing attitudes towards corporate sustainability and tougher regulations set by governments prompt organisations to identify better ways of doing business," said Mr Stathakis. "The CPRS presentation will examine key aspects and policy decisions relating to Australian business. I hope that a better understanding of the scheme will inspire attendees to implement more sustainable business practices."
