Trailblazing MBA graduate

Mark Engelmann, 2012 UQ Business School MBA graduate, has just taken out the Trailblazer Award at the 2015 Brisbane Young Entrepreneurs gala event.

Along with his wife and business partner Aimee, Mark was named this year’s Trailblazer in recognition of the breakout success of their new business, Beepo.

An outsourcing company with a difference, Beepo focuses on delivering a premium offshore staffing service to Australian small and medium businesses (SMBs).

By facilitating access to low-cost staff in the Philippines while ensuring Australian standards of excellence are met, Beepo is providing Australian entrepreneurs with a trustworthy way to leverage their businesses and achieve phase-critical growth.

Reflecting on Beepo’s rapid success Mark is adamant that the company would not be where it is today without the skills and knowledge he acquired by studying the MBA.

“Doing the MBA at UQ Business School was pivotal. It gave me a solid grounding in the fundamentals of business but it also allowed me to think big. The degree has a strong bent towards innovation and disruption, which is exactly how Beepo has been able to achieve so much in such little time,” he said.

Mark also suggests that studying the MBA enabled him to thread all of his vast career experience together.

“I had completed a couple of Bachelor degrees at UQ, I’d served in the army and QLD Police Service, and I had also worked at UQ for several years as an Administration Manager and Business Analyst. The MBA helped me synthesise all that experience and funnel it into a singular vision. The result was Beepo,” he added.

UQ Business School MBA Director Dr Sarah Kelly said she’s delighted Mark’s enterprise has been recognised with this award.

“Many of our alumni are successful entrepreneurs and have leveraged their MBA experience into start-ups or innovative practice within their organisations and communities.

“Mark is a terrific role model for demonstrating possibilities built upon creative thinking, confidence, tenacity, and courage,” she said.
