Dr Michael Bulmer

Michael Bulmer is a senior lecturer in UQ’s School of Mathematics and Physics. His research areas lie in scientific computing and numerical modelling, as well as statistics and probability. His research interests include automated reasoning and data analysis, virtual worlds and OStats – a statistical package designed for teaching and learning data analysis.

Professor Shazia Sadiq

Shazia Sadiq works in the UQ School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. She is part of the Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) research group, and is involved in teaching and research in databases and information systems. Her research interests include business process management, governance, risk and compliance, data quality management, workflow systems, and service science.

Professor Marta Indulska

Marta Indulska is the Business Information Systems discipline leader at UQ Business School. She teaches on topics related to the use and management of information systems and information technology in business, with a focus on increasing operational efficiency and effectiveness. Marta is also a member of the UQ Service Innovation Alliance and Trust, Ethics and Governance Alliance research hubs.

Dr Morteza Namvar

Morteza Namvar is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. Morteza is a dedicated Machine Learning (ML) scholar and specialist. Joining the business school, he brought the experience and knowledge of computer science and IT engineering to the business research. In his studies, Morteza either uses ML techniques, or he improves and optimise them to solve business problems. Morteza has had success in attracting several external funding in Natural Language Processing (NLP) projects. He has led teams at UQ in several machine learning (ML) projects with industry partners, including Medical Protection Society (MPS). In these projects, he applied the NLP techniques he has developed in his research to the text data to help the industry in improving their strategies. He had success in winning the prestigious UQKx&T grant. Morteza’s works are published in top-tier IS and computer science journals and conferences.

A/Professor Andrew Crowden

Andrew Crowden is an experienced practical ethicist who works in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at UQ. He is also Deputy Chair of the AIATSIS Research Ethics Committee, and Chairperson of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and Animal Ethics Committee at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His research interests include philosophy, practical ethics, bioethics, and genomics.

Dr Katie Williams

Katie Williams is a senior lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. She is experienced across the public and human services sectors both domestically and internationally, having been a KPMG Partner for many years. Katie’s teaching focus lies in shaping the Master of Business Analytics curriculum and assisting with Executive Education development. Her research interests include AI maturity frameworks, information security risk management, and business analytics for assurance. 

Dr Micheal Axelsen

Micheal Axelson is a senior lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. He is also the Program Leader for the Master of Commerce. His main research areas explore the use of intelligent decision aids, Information Systems audits, and Information Technology (IT) governance.

Dr Tapani Rinta-Kahila

Tapani Rinta-Kahila is a lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. He is also a member of the UQ Trust, Ethics and Governance Alliance research hub. Tapani’s research areas include artificial intelligence, organisational inertia, and algorithmic decision-making. His main expertise lies in qualitative in-depth case studies.

A/Professor Hassan Khosravi

Hassan Khosravi  is the Academic Lead – Learning Analytics at UQ’s Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation. As a computer scientist by training, Hassan is passionate about the role of artificial intelligence in the future of education. His research employs techniques from the fields of machine learning, educational data mining and learning analytics to enhance the student learning experience.

A/Professor Gianluca Demartini

Gianluca Demartini is an Associate Professor in data science at UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research is currently funded by the Australian Research Council, Facebook, and Google. His main research interests include Information Retrieval, Semantic Web, and Human Computation. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Dr Caitlin Curtis

Caitlin Curtis is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Futures in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at UQ. She is also a lecturer at the UQ Business School and an Affiliate Research Fellow at the UQ Public Health School. Her primary research areas look at the societal impact of genomics and technology, focusing on privacy issues relating to genomic data. Caitlin is highly skilled at informing policy debate across science, technology and communication disciplines.

Dr Allison Fish

Allison Fish is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Futures in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at UQ. Her research interests lie at the intersections of law, anthropology, and social informatics. Allison’s expertise covers the fields of intellectual property, the development of open access and open source models, and the introduction of new technologies into highly regulated workflows. Her work is supported by the Australian Research Council and CSIRO’s Future Science Platform on Responsible Innovation.
 

Dr Thomas Taimre

Thomas Taimre is a Senior Lecturer in Statistics at the UQ School of Mathematics and Physics. His research specialties lie in applied mathematics, operations research, statistics and probability, scientific computing, and numerical modelling. His research interests include Monte Carlo methods, rare-event simulation, and risk theory across scientific, engineering, and finance disciplines. Thomas is also engaged in a variety of PhD, Masters, and Honours projects.

Dr Marten Risius

Marten Risius is a senior lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. His work focuses on the digital transformation of business and society driven by social media and blockchain technologies. Dr Risius has been recognised as a leading emergent scholar by various national and international awards.

Dr Ash Rahimi

Ash Rahimi is a computer science lecturer at the UQ School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research interests lie in natural language processing, social network analysis, and machine learning. By using structured and unstructured data, Ash’s research focuses on helping machines interpret conversational language in emergency situations and health informatics. He worked in industry between 2006 and 2010 and regularly publishes his research results in top National Language Processing conferences.

Dr Bikesh Raj Upreti

Bikesh Upreti is an Honorary Research Fellow and Lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. His research lies in the application of data-driven analytical methods. Bikesh’s skills include text mining, business analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Dr Rocky Chen

Rocky Tong Chen is a lecturer in Business Analytics at UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research specialities lie in data mining, recommender systems, predictive analytics, machine learning, and health informatics. His research work has been published at various peer-reviewed conferences.

Dr Thomas Christy

Thomas Christy is a lecturer at UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His cross-disciplinary research areas include psychology, electronic engineering, computer science, and physiology. Thomas’ research interests lie in affective computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and visualisation technology.

Dr Mark Bremhorst

Mark Bremhorst is a lecturer in the Business Information Systems discipline at UQ Business School. Mark brings over 25 years experience in the IT industry to his teaching and research activities. He studies systems design activities, decision-support systems, and computer augmented decision-making. Mark's research focuses on theories of cognition and how they can describe conceptual models that affect human-computer interaction.

Dr Maxime Cordeil

Maxime Cordeil is a Senior Lecturer at UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. His research areas include Data Visualisation, Computer Graphics and Human-Computer Interaction. He focuses on Immersive Analytics, a recently emerged field of analytics and visualisation that investigates how Augmented and Virtual Reality enhance cognition and decision making.
