Not for Profit Sector leaders choose UQ Business School

Eighty not for profit (NFP) sector leaders will hear the productivity commissioner speak over lunch at UQ Business School Downtown on Wednesday 8 July, 2009. Robert Fitzgerald AM is currently the Presiding Commissioner on the Inquiry into the Contribution of the Not for Profit Sector and the guest speaker for the "Not for Profit Leaders Forum". The Forum is one of the highlights of a much broader program of engagement with the NFP sector, under the direction of Ken Wiltshire AO, JD Story Professor of Public Administration. Professor Wiltshire said, "The sector asked UQ Business School to establish an academic base where the sector can turn for research and advice and expertise. "The School has already been approached with consulting proposals and research opportunities in the sector", he said. In addition to the NFP Unit, UQ Business School Corporate Education delivers unique five-day intensive courses, where "Leadership for the Not for Profit Sector" is underway this week, and an advanced course on Leadership for NFPs will be held in October. This week's course brings together more than a dozen experts fromindustry and academia for a comprehensive and transformative learning experience for professionals in the NFP field. "The first five-day 'Leadership for the Not for Profit sector' course sold out and we turned 20 away", Professor Wiltshire said. "This week's course is sold out again, with 10 participants travelling from interstate and one participant from New Zealand", he said. "A highlight of the week will be Wednesday's lunch with Robert Fitzgerald, where eighty leaders from the sector will join our course participants for the event. "The demand for professional education in the sector is very strong, so we will be running an advanced course on Leadership for NFPs in October, and numbers will be limited to ensure an excellent student experience", Ken said. Robert Fitzgerald AM, has been a full time Commissioner with the Australian Government's Productivity Commission since 2004. He is currently Presiding Commissioner on the Inquiry into the Contribution of the Not for Profit Sector and has been a Commissioner on ten inquiries to date. Robert also convenes the Indigenous Working Group representing the nine Australian governments for the production of the Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage Report. Mr Fitzgerald was formerly the CEO of ACOSS Australian Council of Social Services Australia's peak welfare body. Professor Wiltshire AO, is a Counsellor for the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and a former Australian Representative on the Executive Board of UNESCO and member of the Commonwealth Grants Commission. He is responsible for the MBA Leadership Enhancement Program and leads the Not for Profit initiative at UQ Business School.
