A war hero turned executive, a development analyst with outstanding leadership skills and a consultant who dedicates her time to community events were amongst those honoured at the UQ Business School’s 2016 MBA Awards.

The evening included a keynote speech by graduate Ben Roberts-Smith, the first Victoria Cross recipient to complete a post-graduate degree. Mr Roberts-Smith received the UQ Business School Deans Medal to acknowledge his heroic leadership during his military service and his leadership roles in several charity organisations.

A further eight MBA graduates were selected from a competitive field of nominees for their significant achievements:

  • Jessie Sadler, MBA Director's Award for Leadership
  • Phoebe Smith, Service to Community Award
  • Thomas Scherer, Team Enthusiast Award
  • Alice Evans, MBA Alumni Ambassador Award
  • Ryan Rumble, The Margaret Mittelheuser AM and Morgans Prize in Accounting and Finance
  • Matthew Grant, MBA Award for Overall Excellence
  • James Blake and Troy Gianduzzo, Academic Excellence Award

UQ MBA program director, Dr Sarah Kelly, said that all graduates should be celebrated for successfully completing the top MBA program in Australia.

“In the MBA graduating class of 2016, there are over 100 individual stories of commitment, sacrifice, resilience and courage,” she said.

“All graduates should be really proud to be graduating from the top MBA in Australia and the 10th ranked MBA globally.

“It is the calibre of the MBA students and the alumni that largely drives these rankings and they should be congratulated on that outcome as well.”
