New leadership theories emerge: Why solo CEOs fail and common good is the way forward

After the failures of the dotcom crash and the global financial crisis, leadership theories have evolved to human approaches which focus on the common good of the organisation.

UQ Business School leadership expert Dr Terrance Fitzsimmons says many corporate failures link back to renegade CEOs or senior leadership.

"What they (failing companies) had in common was aggressive, solo flying CEOs who were leading the company into destruction," he says.

"Chairs and executive recruiters started looking for inclusive, transformational, communicative leaders; they didn't want to be taken down the path to jail."
