Where are you working now? Describe your current role and what you do.
I am currently working for an internet company, Chinaway as the Human Resources Manager. My role means I’m responsible for all HR and administration duties and a team of six staff members located in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of the job is the uncertainty of daily work. Communicating with different people, handling challenges every day, and developing the organisation and employees keeps me on my toes, and it is what I enjoy the most.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging part of my role is the pressure from the management team and other departments. Human Resources and Administration is a supporting team, we often need to think and act quickly to issues that arise.
What is your proudest career achievement?
I am extremely proud of my current role. Leading a team of 13 staff members and having helped establish the HR and Administration systems company wide. I feel that these achievements are a sign of how strong and valuable I am as an employee.
What mentor or inspirational figure has guided or influenced your career/life?
I have three mentors who have all helped guide me to achieve success in my current role. Two are managers from my previous company, the other I met through the UQ BEL Mentor Program. They all have provided great advice and helped me to think about my work and career rather than just teaching me how to perform tasks - they have taught me a new way of thinking.
What piece of advice would you give to anyone wanting to attend the UQ Business School?
If you want to attend the UQ Business School, be ready to open your mind and think logically. I would also suggest you think about your future before going to university, what is it that you want to do and who you want to be.
Why did you choose a Master’s degree at UQ Business School?
I did some research on universities in Australia and I found that UQ Business School had a very good reputation and the Master’s degree offered was what my career needed to move forward and become successful.
What’s your most positive memory of your time at UQ Business School?
The best part of studying in Australia was making friends from different countries; I experienced a multi-cultural environment that was warm and friendly. In addition, the teachers at UQ Business School were excellent.
